# NAV Engine

At the center of the vault is the NAV engine: the deterministic function that computes `totalAssets()`. Unlike single-chain vaults, Multistake must aggregate value across multiple planes where assets may be:

* deployed
* mid-strategy
* unwinding
* bridging
* accruing rewards

The NAV engine computes the total value using only *validated* data:

* zkSync-local balances
* validated Multi-chain balances
* validated reward tokens
* discounted values when any plane is paused
* outstanding withdrawal liabilities
* pending deposits with confirmed settlement

No unvalidated value can enter NAV.\
No execution plane can influence NAV directly.

If a strategy plane stops reporting or its oracle becomes stale, that plane’s value is discounted to a conservative fallback until validation resumes.

```
The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.
